Preparing for your first hair consultation
A little preparation helps you get the most out of your appointment. Here’s what to think about beforehand.
A consultation is a two-way conversation. The more clearly you can describe what you’ve noticed and what you hope for, the more useful it will be.
Before you arrive
- Write down when you first noticed changes and whether they’ve been gradual or sudden.
- List anything you’ve tried, including products, supplements and medicines, and roughly how long you used them.
- Find a few older photos if you have them. They can help show how things have changed.
- Note your questions. It’s easy to forget them on the day.
Questions you might ask
- What do you think is happening, and what else could it be?
- What options are there — including doing nothing for now?
- What are the risks and the realistic outcomes for someone like me?
- Who would carry out the treatment, and what is their experience?
- What would it cost, and what is included?
After the appointment
Take your time. A good clinic will give you a written summary and estimate and won’t pressure you to decide on the day.
